چکیده

A between-subjects design (N=60) was used to investigate the effects of electrodermal lability and auditory stimulus intensity on habituation of the skin conductance response (SCR). Subjects were subdivided into "labile" and "stabile" groups on the basis of frequency of nonspecific electrodermal responses during the prestimulation period. They received 20 presentations of a 1,OOo-Hz tone of 15, 35, 55, 75, 95, or 110 dB. There were significant effects of stimulus intensity on all three habituation measures (number of trials to habituation, reciprocal of SCR frequency to the first 10 stimuli, slope of the regression of SCR amplitude on log stimulus number). Additionally, significant effects of lability on the number of trials to habituation and the slope scores were found. Conclusions about the direction of influence of lability and intensity on SCR habituation, however, differed, depending on the habituation measure used.

Stability, consistency, and heritability of electrodermal response lability in middle-aged male twins.

We examined individual differences in nonspecific electrodermal response (EDR) lability in terms of retest stability, cross-situational consistency, and heritability in a sample of 345 adult monozygotic and dizygotic twin pairs. We also examined the phenotypic and genetic relationships between EDR lability and speed of habituation of the specific EDR to a nonsignal stimulus. Individual variatio...

The mechanism of dishabituation

The dual-process theory of habituation attributes dishabituation, an increase in responding to a habituated stimulus after an interpolated deviant, to sensitization, a change in arousal. Our previous investigations into elicitation and habituation of the electrodermal orienting reflex (OR) showed that dishabituation is independent of sensitization for indifferent stimuli, arguing against dual-p...

Habituation and conditioning of electrodermal responses in high risk children.

Measures of skin conductance during rest and during experiments testing habituation and conditioning of the skin conductance response were obtained from 42 10-year-old male children, of whom 12 were at risk for schizophrenia and 30 constituted low risk controls. While typical habituation curves for skin conductance response were obtained from both sets of offspring, no differences were found be...

Fear conditioned changes of heart rate in patients with medial cerebellar lesions.

Fear conditioned changes of heart rate and skin conductance responses were investigated in patients with medial cerebellar lesions. A classical conditioning paradigm with a tone as the conditioned stimulus (CS) and an electrical shock as the unconditioned stimulus (US) was tested on five patients with medial cerebellar lesions due to surgery for astrocytoma and five controls. The CS preceded th...

Effects of emotional prosody on skin conductance responses in French

This pilot study investigates the effects of emotional prosody in French, as resulting by listeners’ electrodermal activity. Differently from responses to standard perception tasks, skin conductance responses (SCRs) are automatic, thus allowing evaluating spontaneous reactions of subjects to external stimuli in a non-invasive way. Based on an identification task on 20 listeners, a set of 4 sent...
